The Twig is The Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital.  Our mission is to provide volunteer services, offer financial aid, and purchase equipment in support of Inova Alexandria Hospital.

Since its founding 90 years ago, The Twig has contributed $5 million to Inova Alexandria Hospital. Our current pledge of $500,000 over 3 years will be used to purchase a Leica Breast Reconstruction Microscope and to fund a Level 3 Trauma program at the hospital.

In 2022, The Twig provided $125,000 toward funding the on-site Simulation Skills Lab and the Patient Financial Assistance Fund. Previously, a $1 million pledge, initiated in November 2015, funded renovations of the Cardiovascular Neuroscience Intensive Care Unit (CVNICU), including upgrades, state-of-the-art clinical space, private patient rooms, and aesthetically pleasing surroundings with space for patients, families, and caregivers.  The Twig provided $1 million for the Twig Surgical Center, completed in June 2015. In 2010, The Twig completed a $750,000 pledge for the Twig Pavilion, an intermediate care unit.

In its earliest days, The Twig’s donations to the hospital included a microscope, purchased for $250, a food purveyor for $55, and a centrifuge for $175.  The Twig also sold carnations on the streets of Alexandria for 10 cents in the 1940’s to support a blood transfusion program at the hospital.
