The Twig Pledges $125,000 to Support Critical Care Needs of Alexandria Community

For Immediate Release

Alexandria, VA — The Twig membership voted to support two new pledges for Inova Alexandria Hospital (IAH), totaling $125,000.  As The Junior Auxiliary of IAH, The Twig’s mission is to provide volunteer services, offer financial aid, and purchase equipment in support of the hospital.

This year’s pledge includes a contribution of $90,000 to support the Simulation Skills Lab.  The Lab provides hands-on training for clinical care teams to hone their skills and provide better medical services.  The funds may be used to purchase new training equipment and ensure skilled simulation trainers are on staff.  The equipment is portable and may be transferred to the new hospital once it is built. Ultimately, the increased training opportunities offered in the Simulation Skills Lab facility at IAH will improve outcomes in patient care.

In addition, The Twig will provide $35,000 toward the IAH Patient Financial Assistance Fund.  This initiative helps cover the cost of transportation, prescriptions, medical equipment and other needs of patients who might otherwise not be able to afford appropriate care.  Priorities for the Fund include in-home nursing support following a patient’s discharge from the hospital, prescription assistance to pay for behavioral health medications, and medical equipment for rehab patients that is not covered by insurance.

The Twig is pleased to provide funds to support the hospital’s efforts to offer top-notch training for medical staff as well as financial support to patients in need.
