The Twig Keeps on Giving with a $300,000 Check to IAH

For Immediate Release
June 5, 2024

Alexandria, VA — The Twig, The Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital, held their annual meeting on Wednesday, June 5, at the Belle Haven Country Club, where they presented Inova Alexandria Hospital with a $300,000 check. This donation fulfilled The Twig’s $500,000 pledge, ahead of schedule, to support the hospital’s endeavor to provide Level 3 Trauma Care to patients.  This will allow trauma patients in the community to receive care close to home, rather than being transported to Fairfax or DC.

In addition to the generous donation to the hospital, The Twig awarded three $5,000 nursing scholarships for advanced education to Inova Alexandria Hospital employees: Christopher Chira, BSN RN, CNOR; Christa Madry, RN; and Peronica Smith, RN.  The Twig Nursing Scholarship Program is a key component of how The Twig fulfills its mission to support Inova Alexandria Hospital and advance the health of the Alexandria community.

Founded in 1933, The Twig is a volunteer organization that operates a Thrift Shop at 106 N. Columbus Street in Old Town Alexandria and hosts the Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour each September.  The Twig’s philanthropic efforts have provided more than $5 million to the hospital since 1933.

The 82nd Annual Historic Homes Tour will be held on Saturday, September 21st. Tickets will go on sale later this summer.
