For Immediate Release
August 18, 2022
Alexandria, VA — After cancelling the Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour in 2020 and holding outdoor “Garden Glimpses” in 2021 due to the pandemic, The Twig is delighted to announce the return of the Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour on Saturday, September 24, 2022.
“We are thrilled to be offering the 80th Annual Historic Alexandria Homes Tour this year,” said Michele Cumberland, Twig President. “The annual tour is typically our largest annual fundraising event and enables us to raise vital funds for our community hospital.”
This year’s tour will showcase seven homes scattered throughout the historic district of Alexandria that people can view on a self-guided tour. Some highlights of the tour include a home recently featured in Southern Living magazine, a home shaded by a 75-year-old fig tree and a home with a guest room surrounded in an “Alexandria-centric”, hand-painted mural. The annual homes tour is a wonderful way to get an up-close look at the some of the lovingly restored historic homes in Old Town Alexandria.
Proceeds from the tour will support Inova Alexandria Hospital, which is celebrating 150 years of serving the health and wellness of our community. The Twig, The Junior Auxiliary of Inova Alexandria Hospital, also sponsors a Thrift Shop located at 106 N. Columbus Street. In June 2022, The Twig donated $125,000 to the hospital which will be used to support a new simulations skills lab for continuous training for nurses and other hospital staff, as well as the Inova patients’ assistance fund for community members who need care but cannot afford it. In addition, The Twig provided $5,000 scholarships to two nursing students. Through their fundraising efforts, The Twig has contributed over $4.5 million to the hospital over the past 89+ years.
Tickets can be purchased in advance online for $40 at on The Twig website and on the day of the event for $45 at: Boxwood at 128 S. Royal St., Old Presbyterian Meeting House at 323 S. Fairfax St. or The Twig Thrift Shop at 106 N. Columbus St.
Special thanks Hadeed Oriental Rug Cleaning and In-Home Services for serving as our Tour Sponsor again this year!
